Missouri Assistive Technology

Assistive Technology

Through a variety of services and support, MoAT increases access to assistive technologies for Missourians with disabilities. They do not offer grants for accessible vehicles.  However, they do provide financing options for handicap accessible vehicles through Show Me Loans.

Assistive technology in Missouri refers to a wide range of devices, equipment, and systems designed to enhance the independence, accessibility, and quality of life for individuals with disabilities. Missouri offers various assistive technology resources and programs to support individuals of all ages and abilities.

Missouri's assistive technology services are primarily provided through the Missouri Assistive Technology (MoAT) program, which operates under the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE). MoAT promotes access to assistive technology through equipment loans, demonstrations, assessments, and training.

The Missouri Assistive Technology program collaborates with schools, vocational rehabilitation agencies, healthcare providers, and community organizations to ensure that people with disabilities have access to appropriate assistive technology solutions. Their services cover a broad range of needs, including mobility aids, communication devices, hearing and vision supports, environmental controls, and computer access technologies.

MoAT also hosts the "Missouri Assistive Technology Conference" annually to bring together professionals, service providers, educators, individuals with disabilities, and their families to share knowledge and showcase innovative assistive technology products and practices.

Missouri has several assistive technology resource centers located throughout the state. These centers provide information, assistance, training, and device demonstrations to help individuals make informed decisions about assistive technology. They often collaborate with local disability organizations and agencies to ensure comprehensive support for individuals with disabilities.

In summary, Missouri's assistive technology services and programs aim to empower individuals with disabilities by providing access to innovative devices, equipment loans, assessments, and training. Through collaborative efforts, Missouri strives to enhance inclusivity and improve the lives of its residents with disabilities.
