The Assistive Technology Act is a federal legislation that promotes the availability and use of assistive technology (AT) devices and services for individuals with disabilities. While each state has its own implementation of the Act, in Indiana, it is known as the Indiana Assistive Technology Act (INDATA).

INDATA is administered by the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) in collaboration with other state agencies, organizations, and stakeholders. The program aims to enhance the independence, productivity, and quality of life of individuals with disabilities through the provision of AT devices, services, and training.

Under INDATA, various services are offered to support individuals with disabilities in accessing and effectively using assistive technology. These services include assessment and evaluation of AT needs, information and referral services, device demonstration and loan programs, and training on AT devices and their applications.

INDATA also operates an Equipment Reuse Program, which facilitates the exchange, refurbishment, and redistribution of gently used assistive technology devices. This program helps individuals with disabilities obtain AT devices at reduced costs or for free, promoting affordability and accessibility.

INDATA collaborates with educational institutions, community organizations, and advocacy groups to raise awareness about assistive technology and its benefits. It provides resources, training workshops, and technical assistance to professionals, educators, and individuals with disabilities to foster a better understanding of AT and its potential applications.

The Indiana Assistive Technology Act plays a crucial role in ensuring equal access to assistive technology for individuals with disabilities in the state. By promoting independence, inclusion, and participation, INDATA strives to empower individuals to achieve their goals and improve their overall well-being.
