Delaware Assistive Technology Initiative

Assistive Technology

DATI serves all Delaware residents of any age that require assistive technology due to a disability. It is run by the Center for Disabilities Studies at Delaware University.

The Assistive Technology Initiative (ATI) in Delaware is a comprehensive program aimed at improving the quality of life for individuals with disabilities by providing access to assistive technology devices and services. The initiative, implemented by the state government, focuses on promoting independence, inclusion, and equal opportunities for people with disabilities across various settings.

ATI offers a range of services, including assessments, consultations, training, and technical assistance related to assistive technology. These services are available to individuals with disabilities, their families, educators, employers, and service providers throughout Delaware.

The program facilitates the acquisition and appropriate use of assistive technology devices, which can include mobility aids, communication devices, adaptive software, sensory equipment, and more. ATI collaborates with various stakeholders, such as schools, healthcare providers, vocational rehabilitation agencies, and community organizations, to ensure that individuals with disabilities have access to the most suitable assistive technology solutions.

ATI plays a vital role in raising awareness about assistive technology and its benefits. The initiative organizes workshops, conferences, and community events to educate and engage the public about the potential of assistive technology in enhancing independence, productivity, and overall well-being for individuals with disabilities.

By promoting the effective use of assistive technology, the Assistive Technology Initiative in Delaware aims to empower individuals with disabilities, foster inclusivity in all aspects of life, and create a more accessible and inclusive society.
